Invisalign Clear braces in Glasgow at the Skye dental group

Invisalign 'invisible' braces are the discreet way to straighten teeth at Skye Dental Group, composed of a series of clear aligners that are removable, with no need for metal brackets or wires. Invisalign is an established success throughout America and has also been proven effective in clinical trials.

So how does it work?

Advanced 3-D computer imaging is the foundation behind Invisalign's unique, bespoke aligners, which are made of clear, sturdy medical grade plastic.  Each aligner is worn for two weeks and only removed to drink, eat and clean your teeth. Little by little, as you wear each aligner, your teeth will move into the desired position as prescribed by your dentist.

It is necessary to visit the practice every six weeks in order to monitor the progress of treatment, with total treatment time being on average nine to fifteen months and the average number of aligners required being between eighteen to thirty aligners. Treatment time and the number of aligners required will, however, depend on each individual case.

How are teeth straightened?

The custom-made aligners work to effectively apply force in order to align teeth. What makes Invisalign aligners unique is that each aligner only concentrates on particular teeth, which means for an efficient treatment plan.

Can Invisalign help me?

As a leading Glasgow Invisalign clinic it is our desire to treat every single patient who wishes to employ this advanced treatment. Each patient will, however, need to be assessed during a consultation to find if treatment is suitable, but for the most part Invisalign is capable of treating tooth gaps, crowding and overbites (overjets).

What else should I know about Invisalign?

There will be mild discomfort when you first wear each aligner, as with any brace system, but this is minimal and will go away after a couple of days.

  • There is the possibility that the aligners will affect your speech, but this is also a momentary inconvenience.
  • You will be happy to know that there are no restrictions on what you can eat during treatment, as long as you not do so with the aligners in and that you brush your teeth and aligners afterwards.
  • Smoking is discouraged as it can lead to staining of the aligners, and chewing gum is also strongly advised against when wearing the aligners.
  • The best way to clean your aligners is by brushing them with your toothbrush, and don't forget to clean your teeth!
  • Aligners should be worn for around 22 hours per day, which gives you enough time to eat and clean your teeth and aligners.
  • When treatment is complete you may need a retainer to wear at night to ensure the new alignment of your teeth is maintained.

Why go for Invisalign?

Invisalign is the ultimate discreet option in the arena of teeth straightening, enabling you to smile without any hesitation during treatment. They are also removable, which means you can eat and drink with ease and this also makes cleaning your teeth and aligners a great deal easier. What's more, the comfort offered by Invisalign aligners is considerable compared to rougher, metal braces. There is even a virtual treatment plan you can be shown to demonstrate how your treatment will progress.
