Dental Implant and Bridge Case Study: Do Not Leave it Too Long

This implant bridge case shows the difficulties faced when patients wait for a while after extractions before considering dental implants.

When our patient came to the Glasgow practice a few months after a difficult dental extraction, he had already suffered considerable bone loss. You can see that in his first dental image.

As is often the case, our patient was struggling to tolerate a plastic denture.

Dr Murphy gave him a dental implant – the price for the single implant was £1050 – and three months later a two tooth implant bridge.

The technicians were asked to match to his old crowns as best they could, having examined the patient at the laboratory.

Two weeks later a two tooth bridge (costing £1600) was cemented and the patient was very happy with the result.

If you would like to know more about getting dental implants from our Glasgow practice please contact us today. As you can see from this case study it is a good idea not to wait too long after any dental extraction to get it done.

If cost is a factor, don’t forget you can spread the cost of dental treatment with a finance arrangement.

Note: About Implant Bridges

We often consider an implant bridge or an implant-supported bridge when the patient has more than one tooth missing or more than one tooth broken beyond repair. Dr Murphy and his colleagues may also be concerned that there would be too much pressure on any individual implants which were not connected one to the other. Imagine, for example, the stress on teeth which can come about from grinding your teeth in bed at night.

An implant bridge reduces individual implant pressure as the stress is spread across the dental bridge. An implant bridge can also be used to span an area where there may not be sufficient or of good enough quality bone to support an implant.

Note that it really helps that patient’s teeth on either side if the implant bridge are in good condition, the gums too. Dr Murphy will explain more when drawing up your treatment plan.
