New Porcelain Crown to Replace Old One: Case Study

This was another case of a fractured root causing the old post crown to fall out of the upper left lateral incisor.

Broken dental crown

Wallace, as often seems to happen, refused the long term denture option but wore one during treatment.

Fitting a new porcelain crown

Dr Brendan Murphy advised him the difficulty in his case might be to match the new porcelain crown to the existing porcelain provided by the referring dentist.

“The way we usually get around this is to get our ceramist, Alec, to attend at the key stage – shade selection. That means we get to discuss all of the issues and make sure everyone’s aware of the expectations.”

Wallace felt that Appletree got it spot on and has been referred back to his NHS dentist for regular checkups.

“I’m just going back for annual implant checks and the hygienist. My own dentist doesn’t have a hygienist.”

Wallace paid £2224, including X-rays, extraction and implant crown.
