Craig (25yrs) came to Appletree Dental Care thinking about Cosmetic Dentistry. To be more precise, he was thinking about porcelain veneers for his front teeth.
After a lengthy but free consultation, during which all options and risks were discussed, he opted instead for cosmetic braces for his upper teeth. One of the reasons for this was the irreversible nature of enamel preparation for porcelain veneer treatments. He was shown pictures of ‘minimal prep’ veneer cases (before/during/after) as well as photos of invisible braces and retainers.
Six Month Smiles Clear Dental Braces
Ceramic brackets, clear elastic ties and tooth coloured wires were attached to his top teeth one week after the consultation. The elastic ties were replaced every four weeks and the wires replaced every eight weeks.
Our dentists prefer starting with thinner, more gentle wires and graduating to stronger thicker wires as cosmetic treatment progresses.
Tooth movements were completed after five months, slightly ahead of our Six Month Smiles target. At ‘braces off’ the patient requested composite bonding to repair the damage to his chipped incisor teeth.
This was carried out immediately to ensure that the impressions for his retainer could be taken that same morning of his visit to our orthodontic technician.
Clear Braces Providing Fast Results
Within one hour he left the laboratory with his plastic retainer, preventing any chance of tooth movement following removal of his invisible braces.
Craig is delighted with his new smile and very happy that it was done with absolutely no injections or needles and no drilling of his front teeth!
Five months was a little bit longer than I’d been thinking before treatment. Now, however, it seems like nothing.
