Mini Dental Implants and Ceramic Porcelain Crowns Case Study

Mary came to the dental practice with a familiar enough tale of missing teeth. She was fed up with her removable denture and was interested in various aspects of cosmetic dentistry to improve her smile and dental health.

Since her old NHS crowns were leaking and Mary felt that they were too yellow, we discussed replacing them with ceramic porcelain crowns. These offer a better looking, more cosmetic, alternative.

These are the dental images we took before treatment:

One of the problems in Mary’s case was the fact that some of her teeth had been removed many years ago and she lacked adequate bone for regular dental implants in a couple of key areas.

Mini dental implants

We found a solution to this problem, however, using mini implants just 3mm in diameter. These have proven to be just as successful as regular dental implants over the long term according to recent dental implant research.

However another problem arose whilst discussing Mary’s smoking habit. She holds no hope of stopping and after discussing the risks this causes we decided that she would still be a good candidate for treatment.

As you can see, smoking has also contributed to the yellow colour of her lower teeth.

A key part of planning in cosmetic dentistry is how to achieve a natural-looking outcome. We decided to go for lighter colours in terms of porcelain, without trying to create a dazzling Hollywood smile.

These are the dental images we took after the work was completed:

Mary’s treatment cost £6960. This included two mini dental implants and eight teeth restored with metal-free ceramic porcelain. Cosmetic dentistry prices are detailed in our price list.
