Cosmetic Implant Alternative to Fixed Porcelain Bridgework

This case demonstrates how a cosmetic implant can offer an ideal alternative to fixed porcelain bridgework. The fixed titanium bar is anchored by only four dental implants – a commonly-used restoration now we are achieving 5 year success rates in excess of 97% at Appletree Dental Care.

Even when there are limited cosmetic implant options at the back of the mouth due to lack of bone or poor quality bone, a titanium implant bar can be extended posteriorly from the implants towards the front of the upper and lower jaw.

This affords excellent retention, uniform splinting of individual implants which reduces latent failures and solid resistance to chewing forces, even when the patient tucks into a well done steak!

Composites in Cosmetic Implant Restorations

The superstructure is of composite design. Composites are a very recent development in cosmetic implant dentistry, as until recently dentists favoured high impact acrylics.

The composite design is slightly more cosmetic and can be very easily repaired if the patient suffers a fracture in years to come. We should remember that implant patients bite much harder than denture wearers. In fact they display similar biting forces to those with their own teeth.

recreating the gum and tooth anatomy

The two photos of the final restoration above demonstrate the ability of our technicians to recreate the gum and tooth anatomy long after remaining teeth have been removed.

This establishes the correct cosmetic proportions, allows for gum and bone shrinkage and provides excellent lip support.

Collapse of the facial ‘curtain’ sadly supersedes wholesale tooth loss and accelerates the ageing process. In this respect dental implants really can make us appear ten years younger.

This composite restoration, based on four implants, costs approximately £10,000 in our Glasgow practice. As with all of our cosmetic dentistry options, finance can be arranged to spread the cost. This normally takes 48 hours to confirm, without paperwork and additional ID checks other than your bank card and makes for a very smooth admin process. Your initial consultation will be free of charge.
