This patient wrote a long list of dental problems in our patients’ concerns form. This is a form we give new patients to our Glasgow practice before they see the dentist.
Sometimes they have just a single dental issue, such as a missing tooth, sometimes as in Marion’s case there are several issues.
This is the dental situation Marion was unhappy with.
- Teeth chipped and ground down
- Front teeth too big
- Dark colours/yellow teeth/different colours
- Stained fillings
- Teeth not straight
Marion came into our Glasgow surgery for a consultation and as part of her dental treatment plan – which every patient receives – we agreed to focus on the colour of her teeth first and attempt to whiten both upper and lower teeth.
A course of home whitening achieved good results but the patient quickly decided other cosmetic dentistry treatments were required.
Some of the old amalgam fillings which had tarnished black were removed and replaced with white fillings made from a composite resin. The front teeth were prepared for either porcelain veneers or crowns.
Ceramic Technician Makes the Porcelain Veneers
The patient attended the ceramic technician to have shades checked and explain her concerns directly.
Good communication between dental surgeon and porcelain ceramist is essential at this key stage of cosmetic dentistry treatments but direct involvement of the patient always improves the final outcome.
As so many of our patients will testify our dental laboratory partners work very hard to make sure they are happy with the shade of the final result of their porcelain veneers or dental crowns.
Here are some of the before and after dental photographs. You can see why Marion was very happy with the results.
Photographs from the side view demonstrate the effect of elimination of metal fillings: there is no dark shadowing behind the enamel.
The plan views highlight how healthy and clean teeth appear when they are cleaner, whiter and smoother. This created a very natural result in this case.
If it wasn’t for the shape and alignment of lower teeth one might struggle to believe the pictures are of the same patient.
It was very satisfying to be able to cross off all the items on Marion’s wishlist of dental treatments
Choosing The Right Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments
It is not unusual for patients to come to us with a range of problems which require more than one kind of dental treatment. They might need implants as well as white fillings, perhaps even braces too.
