Replacing Removable Dentures with Dental Implants

Sandra from Dundee was struggling badly with removable dentures. It had got to the point she was very reluctant to wear them.

Initially referred to Appletree Dental Care by another Glasgow dentist, Sandra now wanted dental implants and a porcelain bridge as a fixed alternative.

Part of the problem with her dentures was there were no molars to retain her acrylic dentures and she had to continually replenish her denture fixative.

Eating had become a major challenge and like many denture wearers Sandra was becoming very unhappy with her situation.

Ultimately, her dentures were left at the side of the sink and had become a cosmetic option which she only used when she was meeting friends or going out.

Getting Rid of Removable Dentures

After her initial consultation in our Glasgow practice, Sandra signed up to go ahead with dental implants as a fixed and more permanent alternative.

Due to the lack of bone in her upper jaw, Sandra needed a sinus augmentation. This created enough bone to place a third titanium implant towards the back of her upper jaw.

We then cemented a fixed porcelain bridge onto gold abutments to achieve a balanced and cosmetic denture alternative.

Good news. Eating solid food is no longer a challenge for Sandra and in her own words she says she is “so much happier without my dentures. It’s just great having teeth all of the time!”

Implants as a Permanent Replacement for Dentures

For many people, the routine of caring for, cleaning and fixing removable dentures is an unpleasant process or even an unthinkable process to go through for the rest of their lives.

Dental implants provide a far better solution for many of our patients. They appreciate the fact they are long-lasting, use high quality, highly durable materials, and they look good, having been custom made to match their teeth.

They also need little maintenance, provided the patient follows the advice of their dentist and dental hygienist.
